Internet Fraud Alert
Recently, there have been multiple e-mail, telephone and text fraud attempts, known as "Phishing”, that were initiated to the general public that appeared to be from various financial institutions. This "Phishing" attempt asked for the recipient to provide and/or verify information about their financial accounts. Some recipients may have been directed to a false website and asked for their financial institutions account number and PIN, along with other personal information.
Beacon Credit Union does not ask members or the general public for such personal information. Anyone who receives a request that purports to be from Beacon Credit Union and asks for account information should consider it to be a fraudulent attempt to obtain their personal account data for an illegal purpose and should not follow the instructions in the e-mail, telephone message or text.
If you responded to such a request and provided any confidential account information, please notify Beacon Credit Union immediately of the scheme. Beacon Credit Union will help you take any additional action to protect your account.
If you feel that you have received a fraudulent phishing attempt from the NCUA, please forward the entire e-mail message to: phishing@ncua.gov
Additionally, you can file formal complaints concerning any suspected fraudulent electronic phishing attempts with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC) at www.ic3.gov. The IFCC is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the National White Collar Crime Center.
